Hi, I'm Joseph Amato, the creator of How to Read Plans. I have over 10 years of experience in the building industry, initially as a building designer and drafter, and later transitioning to a software engineer.

The Mission

I developed How to Read Plans because I noticed that many of my clients struggled with understanding building plans. I wanted to provide an online resource that could empower them by teaching this valuable skill. I believe that being able to read plans not only benefits building professionals and tradespeople, but also owner builders and renovators, as it enables them to truly comprehend the project and make more informed decisions. My goal is to keep improving this website, articles and guides so all readers can gain this great skill.

My family and I are based in Australia! And when I am not working on this website, I spend my time with my family and working as a software engineer for an Australian company.

My Projects

I have completed over 100 residential and commerical peojects as a building designer and drafter. One of my most notable projects was a 2 storey luxury residental project in Perth, Australia. I was responsible for the design and drafting of the project, as well as the building approval process. The project was completed in 2016 and has since sold for nearly 6 million dollars.
